Me trying to look cool

Me trying to look cool

This is the personal website of me, René Zuleta. I’m 33 years old and live in Costa Rica.

I work as Director of Technology in Schematic, a leading interactive agency. Before that I’ve worked as an eBusiness Consultant and as a process redesign engineer. All of these means that some of my experience and interests are related to:

  • Usability in websites/software
  • W3C Compliant web design
  • eBusiness projects
  • Project management
  • Process analysis and redesign
  • eGovernment projects
  • Technology assessments in organisations

I do my best to convince my wife and friends that web standards should be a way of life. Most of them, having nothing to do with web design, don’t really care. But they should.

I’ve been trying for a couple of years to have a personal website and in doing so, I’ve tryed having static websites and blogs using different software or blog services such as Blogger. This time, I’m working on my new personal website where I’m having a blog plus hopefully I the near future more information about myself, my work, resources for my students and colleagues.

This site was designed as a place for me to convey some of my ideas and keep a record of my thoughts. If it helps people in some way, then that will make me happy. In general, I really want a place for me to try new ideas and bounce them off of other people and get their thoughts. You can help me out by making comments, whether you agree with me or not.

There are a few things that I’ve tried to accomplish with this site. First and foremost, it’s a personal resource. I document problems that I run into or bookmark sites that are of interest to me. It’s a central repository that I can always refer back to when I need to. In doing so, I hope that it can be a resource for others.

Little by little I hope to keep adding sections and functionality to this website.

During 2007, I worked full time at the Secretaría Técnica de Gobierno Digital, which is the office in Costa Rica in charge of the eGovernment iniciative. This is a brand new institution the started operations on October 2006. There I was in charge of helping institutions involved in eGovernment projects with things such as process analysis and redesign. I also worked in documenting a set of Web Design Guidelines for government institutions and promoting the use of standards and interoperability.

I graduated with an Industrial Engineer degree at the Universidad de Costa Rica and then studied Software Development at Cenfotec. I’ve also been in courses of topics such as Project Management and web design and application’s software. Finally got my MBA degree at INCAE which is the number one business school in Latin America in October 2008.

My interests include astronomy, social networks and user centered design. Whenever I find the time I try to read something about these topics.

My Digital Life

Besides this website, some other places on the internet important to me include:

  • LinkedIn - For feeling important
  • Digg - I read Digg mostly every day
  • Del.icio.us - And this is how I link everything else
  • Wikipedia - Which I consider is one of humanities greatest achievements

Colophon

A Colophon is: “An inscription placed usually at the end of a book, giving facts about its publication.” #

Renezuleta.com runs on a dot5hosting server and it is powered by Wordpress.

The site is generally maintained out of San José, Costa Rica, where I live, using Coda and Adobe FireWorks among others. All run, of course, on OS X.
